11th to 13th February 2013
The weekend’s activities will start at 5.00 pm on Friday afternoon, 8th February 2013, with the doors opening to students at the delightful Belsey Bridge Conference Centre, Ditchingham, nr. Bungay NR35 2DZ.
The accommodation is arranged in single and double rooms on the ground and first floors, most rooms having en suite facilities, and full board is included in the fee for the weekend.
The courses on offer will provide 12 hours’ tuition, divided into eight sessions: one on Friday evening, four on Saturday (the evening will be free) and three on Sunday. The programme will finish after tea on Sunday afternoon.
The cost of the weekend is £240.00 for EG members (£265.00 for non-members), which can be paid in a lump sum or by deposit and three monthly instalments, if required. The tutors and courses are:
Daphne J Ashby – “STUMPWORK FOR BEGINNERS”
“Stumpwork”– in the 17th century called raised or embossed embroidery – is a form of three-dimensional embroidery and, during the course, using silk threads, fine wires and a variety of stitches and techniques, you will create a picture involving a flower, leaves and a butterfly.
Jenny O’Leary – “EXPERIMENTING WITH BATIK ON TISSUE PAPER”
Experimenting with batik – wax resist – on tissue paper, using traditional tools, such as the tjanting and non-traditional tools, such as brushes, cardboard, even potato mashers! We will work with bleach and inks too to create layers of colour, texture and pattern.
There will be an opportunity to add machine embroidery to the finished batiks and/or to continue developing more ideas through batik. If time permits, there will also be a chance to do some silk tie dyeing towards the end of the course.
