Our members created two spectacular versions of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting “Starry Nights”. The picture was split into 12 sections with each member taking their own square. We were allowed to use our own interpretation and there was no restriction on stitch or materials the only rule was that we had to try and recreate the colours.
The work was brought by the Peterborough Decorative & Fine Arts Society (PDFAS) who donated it to the local City Care Centre.
The present Peterborough Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild has been in existence for over 24 years and has over 23 members
We offer regular meetings, workshops and visits to exhibitions and places of interest. The meetings generally feature guest speakers who bring along inspirational examples of their work. There is always the chance to chat to other members, to ask for advice, exchange ideas or find out what is happening locally and further afield. The workshops enable members to try new techniques – and often produce a finished item – in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
If you enjoy textiles, this could be the group for you!
While embroidery is at the core of our activities, we explore many other facets of traditional and contemporary stitching.
Workshops take place several times a year at the Wistow Community Centre. They run from 10am – 4pm.
The branch is affiliated to the Embroiderers’ Guild, a registered educational charity, and is self-governing within its own constitution and the framework of the Embroiderers’ Guild. The branch is also self-financing.
The cost of membership of the branch is determined annually, with approval being gained at the Annual General Meeting each September.
The current fees are:
Branch membership £32 per year half of which pays your Affiliation fee to the National Embroiderers’ Guild and to Regional membership.
Members joining part way through the year are charged on a pro rata basis. At the moment, members pay an additional £4 per meeting.
Visitors can attend two meetings in any one-year at a cost of £5 per meeting. This charge is waived if the visitor joins the Guild at a branch meeting.
