We have a thriving Textile, Fibre and Stitch Group which is open to girls and boys up to the age of 18. We run four workshops per year lasting 5 hours each.
For the past year we have been creating individual elements (insects/flowers etc) which the young embroiderers’ will eventuially use to create their own collage or book. Below is a picture of the sample collage made by the YE leader, the young embroiderers’ have taken some of their inspiration from this.We have around 12 members (average) per workshop ranging in age from 7 to 15. They are all thoroughly enjoying this project.

Young Embroiderers’ Group details
The group meets four times a year on Saturdays – twice in Spring and twice in Autumn. Meetings are at The United Reformed Church Hall and start at 10.15 am and finish at 3 pm. Members £3 and visitors £4. Meeting dates in the coming year are:-
17th September 2011
12th November 2011
14th January 2012
10th March 2012
15th September 2012
10th November 2012
Each session has a theme and the members will get the opportunity to try a whole range of textile work and produce a finished piece of work within the day.
Previous workshops have incorporated techniques in felt and paper making, dyeing, bonding, printing, painting, stamping, beading, weaving, cord and tassel making, card making and of course, stitching and embroidery. We aim to teach at least one new stitch per session. Our projects range from contemporary mixed media art to learning traditional stitching and embroidery. Sometimes it’s a mix of the two.
Visitors may attend up to two trial sessions before becoming members of The Young Embroiderers arm of The Embroiderers’ Guild.
Membership costs £10 per year for the first member and £8 for additional family members. You will get access to YE activities and competitions.
